Increasing Owned Property

My Initiatives to increase the owned property supply are centered around ...(Coming soon)

  1. A Condo Development Policy that mandates the development of Owner Occupied property Units (Condo's) throughout the major corridors in Arlington County.

    1. With a restriction on any condo buildings having over 35% of units being short-term or rental properties.

  2. A Minimum Residential Area Policy that creates a minimum of 1250 SQFT for residential units, 950 SQFT for commercial units, and 450 SQFT for office units. This policy would include any developments built over the past 75 years to update their floor plans to adhere to the new minimums or ask for a special exemption.

  3. A Rental Development Moratorium for a minimum of 7 years.

    1. Arlington currently ranks 20th in the country for new rental housing units at 809 SQFT, with over 62% of all housing in the county being rented.

    2. The moratorium would specifically restrict new rental developments from being developed in the county

      1. The Moratorium would not restrict an individual owner from renting out their units or investing in the units.

      2. The moratorium would restrict any condo from having over 35% of units being short-term or rental properties.

Multi-Mobility

My multi-mobility Policy Initiative is a Pedestrian Streets and Arlington Regional Transit Master Plan that creates a more convenient transit system for Arlington residents to get where they want to go. The master plan will also work to close at least 35% of county streets to regular traffic, enhance pedestrian priority, and enable greater living conditions. This plan will include

  1. Car BuyBack and Bike/Scooter Rebate Program that enables Arlington Residents to ditch their cars.

  2. A protected infrastructure policy for bikes, scooters, buses, and streetcars will give residents reliable access to infrastructure.

    1. Create an immediate plan to

      1. Place concrete, metal, and decorative bollards and planters to create more of a barrier between Mobility Lanes, Bus Lanes, and Vehicle Lanes

      2. Repaint Road Markings to completely separate bus and mobility infrastructure county-wide

      3. Remove all street parking from high pedestrian areas.

      4. lower speed limits, introduce infrastructure to reduce speed, and reduce two-way streets.

    2. Create a master plan to

      1. Work to eliminate parking minimums, street parking, and surface parking lots.

      2. Pedestrianizing Our Corridors:

        1. Wilison Blvd, Clarendon Blvd, Fairfax Drive, and all the surrounding roads.

        2. Most of Shirlington and Green Valley.

          1. Including the Removal of S Four Mile Run Dr and S Arlington Mill Dr.

        3. Cyrstal Dr, S Eads St, 15th St, 23rd St, S Clark St, and all the surrounding roads.

      3. Enact a policy so that concrete, metal, and decorative Planters act as Bollards

        1. Will work with DES and other county staff to get the proper molds and equipment to start making planters.

        2. Will also work with DES and other county staff to replace the less-than-adequate plastic bollards.

  3. Work to remove or bury Interstate & Highway Projects

    1. Removal of I-395

      1. Proposing to end I-395 at King Street and transform it into an urban boulevard that merges into Route 1 in DC

    2. Cut and Cover of I-66

    3. Pentagon & Arlington National Cemetery Highway Spigittii simplification

    4. Boulevard Urbanization Corridors

      1. Glebe Rd

      2. Arlington BLVD

      3. Langston BLVD

      4. Walter Reed Dr

      5. George Mason Dr

      6. Four Mile Run Dr

      7. Washington BLVD

      1. We need to build transit infrastructure that will transport people to Mount Vernon, and upgrade our cycling and walking paths to be adequate for both tourists and commuters.

Pets

My Pet Policy Initiative is to ensure our policy reflects the reality that we as a species have domesticated animals to be 'pets & property'. I will be drafting a slate of pet policies that give the animals we have turned into a form of slave the adequate amount of consideration they deserve in our community.

  1. A Pet Accessibility Policy that would require all housing in the county to accept pets, build pet facilities, and abolish pet rent & deposits.

  2. A Pet Accessible Infrastructure policy that integrates safe pet travel into our transit options.

    1. I will put forward proposals to ART, VRE, METRO, and AMTRAK to integrate pet carriers and pet carrier infrastructure into their train design. The proposal will include:

      1. Retrofit a fleet of buses that can slot into every bus route to give each route at least 1 bus that can transport pets safely.

      2. Retrofit at least one car on each train to be equipped for pet travel.

      3. Work with manufacturers and designers to ensure new orders include pet-friendly travel options.

    2. Work with County Staff to put forward a proposal to provide low-cost pet training and facility options to residents.

    3. Work with DPR to include more pet infrastructure. Including but not limited to: dog parks, runs, and fields, more pet waste stations, pet washing facilities, and more water bowls in fountain designs
